2010 Atlantic Hurricane Season Expected to be an Active One

June 1st marked the beginning of hurricane season. NOAA officials warn us to expect an "active to extremely active" hurricane season in the Atlantic. For the 2010 hurricane season, NOAA is predicted anywhere from 14 to 23 named storms (top winds of 39 mph or more) including 8 to 14 hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or more) and 3 to 7 major hurricanes (winds of at least 111 mph).

In announcing the 2010 hurricane season projections last week, NOAA Administrator Lubchenco said, "If this outlook holds true, this season could be one of the more active on record. The greater likelihood of storms brings an increased risk of a landfall. In short, we urge everyone to be prepared."

Health Reimbursement Arrangements

More confused than ever about health insurance because of the Obama Health Care Reform Bill?  The article below is about HRA plans and why they are so popular among employers.

"Employers keep searching for innovative ways that will allow them to manage their health care costs while keeping employees happy. Heath Reimbursement Arrangements (HRA) are Defined Contribution (DC) health plans designed to do just that."

Boating/Personal Watercraft Risks

"With spring on the horizon, your agency is likely to start getting requests for watercraft coverage-after all, with very few exceptions, most of us live within a short distance of an ocean, lake or river. But if you don't have a lot of dealings with this exposure, you may find yourself run aground with an E&O claim. Here are a few tips on navigating the waters of boat insurance.

Why not simply place the coverage under a homeowners or renters policy? While this may be tempting, particularly if your client is looking to save some money, it's not generally a good solution. While the premiums may be less, there is no doubt that the coverage is limited as well...."

The most important thing in property insurance is to cover the entire rebuilding cost, not the market value. It is necessary to ensure in covering the rebuilding costs and not the market value because your land is not under threat from fire, storms and theft. Remember that most of the time, it is a lot cheaper to rebuild a house from scratch rather than buying a new one.
